This week we continued speaking about antisemitism. We addressed a question from a student asking advice about how to cope with the hate that they are receiving from friends and family. We moved on to speaking about personal cases, as South Africans, of antisemitism.
We speak about our sense of abandonment as Jewish South Africans in Israel but also recognize the overwhelming fear felt to speak out in places that aren’t Israel.Lastly we spoke about the effect of antisemitism on our mental health. This is a very dark time for all of us but as the celebration of Hanukkah gets closer, we encourage us all to spread our light to rid the darkness.
May our light continue to shine during this dark time.
